Whether youโ€™re here for a weekend or an extended vacation, our agriturismo provides the perfect retreat to explore the wonders of Volterra and its surroundings.

Volterra and its surroundings offer visitors countless opportunities to be amazed, enchanted, and fall in love with this extraordinary land. Nestled in the heart of Tuscany, the Val di Cecina, along with the Valle del Pavone, Valle del Diavolo, and the Metalliferous Hills, presents landscapes and environments that have remained unchanged over the centuries. Here, art, history, nature, and legends intertwine like precious threads, creating a fantastic tapestry where everyone can follow their own personal dream.

Pristine Nature and Nature Reserves

For nature lovers, the forests of Tatti-Berignone, Monterufoli-Caselli, and Montenero offer the perfect retreat, now transformed into Nature Reserves. These areas are crossed by trails and paths suitable for all levels of experience, whether on foot, by mountain bike, or horseback. You can explore areas with tertiary relic flora, characterized by laurel, yew, holly, and Greek periploca, remnants of subtropical vegetation that existed before the Quaternary ice ages, dating back 65-62 million years ago. Admire the pink blooming of heather (Calluna vulgaris), endemic flora of areas with high carbon dioxide emissions and acidic soils.

You will also marvel at the majestic flight of raptors that nest in our areas, or discover traces of wild animals such as wildcats, wolves, deer, foxes, and squirrels.

Geology and Geothermics

If you’re passionate about geology and geothermics, the region offers fascinating routes from Larderello to Monterotondo Marittimo, complete with specialized maps of geosites. Here, you can search for the famous chalcedonies in Monterufoli, which have been extracted since the 16th century for the Opificio delle Pietre Dure in Florence. Visit the historic copper mine in Camporciano or follow the path of the lignite railway, without forgetting the spectacular alabaster quarries, typical of the Volterra area.

Art and History

For art history enthusiasts, Volterra is a true treasure. You can delight in the effigy forms of Ombra della Sera, admire medieval sacred art with a beautiful and unique 13th-century wooden deposition, and bow to the genius of Rosso Fiorentino and the delicacy of Ghirlandaio. Finally, discover the modern constructions designed by Giovanni Michelucci, which further enrich the architectural heritage of the area.
